A troubling rash of assaults against police officers has Port Alberni’s top cop concerned.
Inspector Brian Hunter said there’s been 6 cases in the past 2 weeks of officers being attacked by suspects
“To have a reaction where someone egregiously assaults one of our officers, bear sprays one of our officers, attacks an officer resulting in a broken bone, is completely unacceptable, and society does not accept this either,” said Hunter.
Hunter said while officers are well-trained and prepared for violence, this recent trend of violent reactions makes their already difficult job even harder.
He said the courts take a very dim view of people who assault police officers, and says perpetrators should expect stiff sentences.
