The homeowner noticed his door was opened saw wet footprints on the floor inside.
He looked up and saw a man running away down the alley.
The home owner chased the man down and confronted him, but the suspect attacked him with a blunt object according to police.
He suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
A nearby neighbour had called police around the same time to report that her boyfriend was acting funny and running up and down the alley.
The 46 year old man was later located and found to be the man involved in the assault. He was arrested without incident and is facing charges of Break and Enter and Assault with a Weapon. He will appear in court on March 27th, 2019.
