Port Alberni city council will have their first working meeting on Tuesday, and are already facing some tough decisions.
Bylaw Service Manager Flynn Scott is proposing the doubling of enforcement fines within the city.
Currently, if you’re fined for an unsightly property, you face a $100 fine, which is reduced to $75 if you pay right away, but increased to $125 if you miss the deadline.
Those fines increase to $200, $150 and $250 respectively if this bylaw amendment is passed.
Cemetery fees could also rise again after an increase brought in last year failed to cover operational costs.
The Deputy Director of Finance is recommending a 15% increase to burial plots for residents, and a 25% increase for non residents, plus a 53% increase in the cost of a grave liner.
The meeting starts at 7 pm Tuesday.
