A head-on collision on Highway 4 earlier this week has renewed calls for emergency phone services in the area.
Port Alberni mayor-elect Sharie Minions said her mother was one of the people injured in an MVI near the Kennedy River rest stop.
Witnesses had to drive a half-hour to get back into cel range to call 9-1-1, and it was another half-hour before emergency crews arrived on scene.
Minions said Port Alberni will join with Ucluelet and Tofino councils to call for emergency phone services.
She said her mother and the other people involved in the head-on crash are fine, but highlighted the problem of having no cel service between Sproat Lake and the Ucluelet Junction.
