Port Alberni pot shops that opened their doors yesterday, had them closed by police.
The Cannabis Club on Bute Street was raided yesterday morning, with RCMP seizing marijuana, and a variety of products.
Christine Jarvis, Cannabis Club General Manager said there was nothing in the licence application or on the government’s website ordering existing shops to close, and she felt the raid was heavy-handed.
Cannabis Club owner Trevor Bertrand says he has submitted his licence application to the provincial government and paid a $7500 fee.
He was charged under the new Cannabis Control and Licencing Act, and given a $525 fine.
He says the forced closure of his store puts 6 people out of work.
Later in the day, Leaf Dispensary at the bottom of Johnston was also raided by police.
In a press release from RCMP, they say while the legal recreational use of cannabis may be new, the enforcement of laws around the illegal production, distribution, and consumption of cannabis is not, and marijuana is to be sold only through government-run stores.
