Port Alberni politicians had their opportunity to put pressure on the provincial Forest Minister in Whistler yesterday, and were happy to hear he agreed with their perspective on raw log exports.
City councillor Jack McLeman said Minister Doug Donaldson also believes there has to be a change.
“He said what we have now is not working, and if there’s some short term pain for long term gain then so be it, but there has to be a change.”
McLeman said he was encouraged that the Forest Minister also wants the wants majority of wood cut in BC, to be milled in BC, but wants to see action on the issue.
He said they were also able to talk about getting more cut for the community forest, and were assured by Ministry staff that changes will be coming in the next few weeks
