Nominations for local elections begins today, and already a sixth candidate for mayor has stepped forward.
Incumbent city councillor Denis Sauve was long-rumoured to be eyeing the mayors chair, and made it official this morning.
The retired RCMP officer says his “boots on the ground” experience volunteering throughout the community gives him a unique, and deeper understanding of local needs.
Sauve joins incumbent Mayor Mike Ruttan, councillor Shari Minions, former mayor John Douglas, and businessmen Kevin Wright and Gary Robertson in the race for the mayor’s chair.
City, regional district and school board candidates have until September 14th to submit their nomination papers in advance of the October 20th election.
