The city has stepped in to get the McLean Mill Society back on track.
City of Port Alberni CAO Tim Pley said it’s been a tough year for the McLean Mill Society, who have faced financial challenges but still worked to make the National Historic Site a better Alberni Valley attraction.
He said while the society is arms-length from the city, the city is the society’s only member.
Sheena Falconer has been named interim president of the board, and Anderson and Associates have been hired to do the book-keeping for the balance of this year.
Pley said the city will pay for Anderson & Associates to replace Susan Roth, who resigned as book-keeper last week, after flagging a number of purely procedural problems with the financial management of the mill
Roth said Anderson and Associates made recommendations to the McLean Mill Society more than a year ago, but they were ignored by the board.
Pley said that won’t happen again, and any concerns are about procedures, as there has been no allegation of misappropriation of funds.
