Questions remain unanswered after the completion into a review of how a Nanaimo inmate escaped police custody while attending his mother’s funeral.
BC Corrections investigated how 46-year-old David Blackmore walked out the back door of a Port Alberni funeral home last August.
Blackmore was arrested three days later.
BC Corrections said the review led to a number of recommendations to adapt their security policy, but they didn’t confirm if any of the recommendations were implemented, citing the need to keep security policies highly confidential to protect the safety of staff and inmates.
It’s also unclear if the staff member from the Nanaimo Correctional Centre overseeing Blackmore during his escorted day pass faced any repercussions.
