Former Port Alberni Fire Chief Kelly Gilday completed his first week as Alberni Valley Protective Service Manager on Friday.
He said last summer’s mock emergency, and January’s Tsunami warning, gave him a good idea of the gaps in emergency planning, and he will look for ways to fill them.
Gilday says the regional district recently received provincial grants for fire-smart planning, and to update the wildfire protection plan.
He said a new notification system being tested by the province, could be brought here to improve emergency communications.
