Courtenay – Alberni’s federal representative Gord Johns is back from Ottawa for the summer break.
He said despite the NDP’s 3rd Party status, he’s had more success in 3 years than the previous MP had in his 14 years
Johns told a partisan crowd at Chars Landing last night about his continued fight against ocean plastics, crime and poverty in the riding, and his support for salmon enhancement, and many other federal programs that could assist the Alberni Valley and West Coast communities.
Johns congratulated the Trudeau Government for making a west coaster the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
Johns said North Vancouver Liberal MP Johnathan Wilkinson was given the portfolio in today’s cabinet shuffle
The last Minister of Fisheries from the west coast was Victoria MP David Anderson, who was given the role by Prime Minister Jean Chretien in the late 1990’s.
Johns is hoping to tour Wilkinson and other Cabinet Ministers around the Alberni Valley as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just announced he’ll be hosting a cabinet meeting in Nanaimo later next month.
