A 23-year old PortĀ Alberni man will remain in a psychiatric hospital, almost 2 years after being arrested for assault.
Reese Berry was causing a disturbance at the Roger Creek Apartments in August 2016 when police were called.
He escaped initial arrest after threatening an officer with a knife, but was arrested a short time later.
At the police station, he punched an officer in the face, and tried to pull the officers sidearm from its holster during the ensuing struggle.
He was recently deemed fit to stand trial by a government review board and was sentenced to time served yesterday, and will be on 18 months probation once released from psychiatric care.
