An air quality advisory remains in effect for Alberni today, but South Port is mostly unaffected.
With the cold weather, fireplaces and woodstoves are being used by many homeowners, which is the source of most of the particulates in our airshed.
Yesterday, the BC Ministry of Environment announced an air quality advisory as particulates hit 33 micrograms per cubic meter of air – far above the maximum allowable of 25.
But now that we have two air monitoring stations, we can see the samples around Alberni Elementary remain quite high, while tests at the Port Authority docks average just 10 micrograms.
You can check air quality reading anytime online on the BC Ministry of Environment website.
