A 2 1/2 hour budget meeting was all for naught last night after city council refused to support the budget that they had collectively created.
Councillors voted in favour of projects they wanted to add to the 2018 budget, from $223,000 for an expanded bylaw department, to $25,000 to complete Millstone Park.
But as council prepared to accept their deliberations, Councillor Chris Alemany made a motion to approve $430,000 for a water and sewer project on 6th Avenue, which would push this years tax increase from 3 to almost 5%.
The meeting disintegrated with Councillor Sharie Minions saying she was unhappy with the budget and Mayor Mike Ruttan saying he was disappointed at his council.
Council will meet again on the 19th to discuss proposed projects again. A finalized budget must be accepted by May 15th.
