Building on our reputation as the Salmon Capital of the World and Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town, local artist Shayne Lloyd wants to fill the city with fish.
He’ll be in front of city council on Monday seeking support to build the world’s largest salmon, and line city streets with fiberglass models of salmon that can be painted by local artists and community groups, similar to Vancouver’s Spirit Bears.
Lloyd is working with others to secure arts funding for the project and at this point is only asking the city for a letter of support to proceed with the idea.
The Port Alberni Salmon Run project members will come before council at 7 pm Monday.
