BC Liberal leadership candidate Diane Watts made a surprise visit to Port Alberni yesterday, a guest of the San Group at their mill.
Kamal Sangera told his workers and invited guests that they are about to introduce a third shift at the former Coulson-owned cedar mill, and they could have the shuttered Somass Sawmill up and running in 30 days but Western Forest Products is ignoring their calls.
Watts said community and political pressure needs to be put on Western to invest in the valley or leave.
The Steelworkers Union has posted a petition to further urge Western Forest Products to either invest in local mills or sell to a company that will.
