Veteran’s killer sentenced

It’s been almost 6 years since 75-year old Mervin Hankins was found dead in his 4th Avenue home.

In February of last year after a 4-year undercover investigation, 47-year old Channon Coulter was arrested in Mission, and charged with the murder of the naval veteran.

Crown Counsel Nick Barber said the senior died violently as the result of a botched break and enter.

Yesterday in Nanaimo, Coulter plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
