The city is about to spend close to a million dollars on new garbage trucks, only six years after purchasing the last ones.
The three new trucks will feature a split body for the collection of kitchen and garden waste, which Mayor Mike Ruttan admits, has yet to be approved.
Ruttan said the purchase will not affect the budget, as the money is already in the Equipment Replacement Fund.
He said the cost of launching the compost collection program is still to be determined, and will be a focus of budget discussions which will begin later this month.
