Naesgaard’s Market has a new addition to their security plan.
Store owner Helge Naesgaard has begun sleeping among the displays, protecting his goods from night-time thieves and vandals.
He has seen an increase in thefts recently, and is worried about the Christmas displays that they’re currently building.
Naesgaard agrees with the local crime reduction strategy, where police focus their efforts on the few people committing the majority of crimes.
Inspector Brian Hunter says property crimes have increased by 20% over the past few months, and police believe there are 26 chronic offenders, with 16 of them currently in jail.
