School District #70 is moving forward on developing a procedure for naming schools, but it’s not moving fast enough according to one trustee.
Rosemarie Buchannan says the school board received the staff report during the in-camera portion of their meeting in Tofino yesterday, before moving it into the public discussion.
She said staff will now develop a report on all district schools that carry names of individuals including Maquinna, Wickaninnish, Dunn, Howitt, and of course A.W. Neill.
The district has revived the long-defunct buildings and properties committee to make recommendations on names and name changes to the board towards the end of this current school year.
