Police blocked upper 3rd Avenue late Saturday morning, after a man tried to rob the Royal Bank.
Port Alberni RCMP are saying little about the incident since it’s still under investigation, but according to CHEK News, a 22-year old man from the Interior first threatened staff with a bomb, then produced a syringe and demanded to get into the bank’s vault.
Police arrived quickly and arrested the man, holding him in custody under the mental health act.
He’s been charged with attempted robbery and mischief, and will make his first appearance in court on Wednesday.
