Last week’s revelations that drugs had allegedly been stolen from west coast general hospital is causing concern in the community.
The theft of hydromorphone – a drug said to be five times more powerful than morphine – is alleged to have occurred late last year.
City Councillor Denis Sauve says if the drugs left hospital property, the RCMP should have been brought in to the investigation.
While Island Health refused to admit to the issue, our investigation was proven through multiple Freedom of Information requests and appeals over the past 8 months.
After breaking the story on Thursday, Island Health issued a short media statement, confirming the completion of their own internal investigation but refusing to release details.
