A 2-car crash on Highway 4 sent 3 people to hospital yesterday
The crash happened shortly after noon, 3 km west of the Taylor River viewpoint.
A Dodge pickup truck driven by a 74-year old man from Tofino, was travelling westbound in a construction zone when the driver tried to pass some vehicles.
A westbound septic truck with its turn signal on, started to make a left turn off the highway immediately in front of the pickup, which hit the drivers side door of the septic truck at full speed.
The pickup went into a ditch and rolled onto its side, trapping its driver, who was rescued by several passersby, including some off-duty Shawnigan Lake fire fighters and a doctor.
Highway 4 was closed in both directions for approximately two and half hours as two of the three people in the pickup and the driver of the septic truck received serious non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Highway 4 was closed Wednesday as well after a culvert collapsed near Tofino around noon, and a chip truck rolled near Angel Rock around midnight, sending the driver to hospital with minor injuries.
