Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is once again spending his family summer vacation in Tofino, and met with local leaders.
Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns said it was a chance to impress upon the PM that this region needs federal help
Johns said the airport expansion project was just another example of Ottawa refusing to support a local project, leaving local governments to carry the weight of investing in the regional economy and infrastructure.
Last year, the PM was told by Tla-o-qui-aht leaders he would not be welcome back in their territories unless he lived up to his promises to First Nations.
Johns said while Tla-o-qui-aht acknowledged some progress had been made, he said it’s not nearly enough.
Johns said it’s ridiculous the Liberals are continuing the lawsuit launched by the Conservatives to deny west coast First Nations the ability to sell fish and seafood caught within their territories.
