While Western Forest Products is shutting down the Somass Mill citing lack of logs, the San Brothers have increased staffing levels at the former Coulson mill – raising questions about Cedar supply and management
Mid Island Pacific Rim MLA Scott Fraser said he remains closely involved in the situation.
Fraser said the Somass Mill was an economic driver for the company and the city, and was a valuable part of the fibre chain for Catalyst and smaller cedar mills in the region.
He said the issue is heightened by how much we don’t know, and he’ll be meeting with the Minister of Forests today to determine if the fibre shortage was related to provincial forest policy, and see if the situation can be reversed.
