As the Somass sockeye season begins to wind down, Fisheries and Oceans researchers are standing pat on their reforecast of 375,000 fish – more than 200,000 above their pre-season forecast.
260,000 have made it through the counters at Stamp Falls while 92,000 were caught by the First Nations, Commercial and Recreational fisheries.
A gilnet fishery ends at 5:30 this afternoon before seiners have an opening from Sunday to Wednesday
Both the Skeena and Fraser sockeye fisheries remain closed, while the sockeye fishery in Bristol Bay Alaska is having a banner year, supplying much of the world sockeye market with an estimated 50 million fish.
