Calls to Port Alberni RCMP were up in the last quarter, and many areas of crime increased as well.
Staff Sergeant Dave Paddock told ACRD Directors that the increase could be seen as a positive rather than a negative.
He credited the Crime Reduction Strategy with people reporting more incidents, which then causes a spike in crime stats.
He said co-operation with Central Island Traffic Services allowed them to have a check-stop at Taylor Flats and logging road patrols on the May long weekend, and shared resources with the marine patrol have allowed for safe boating checks on Sproat Lake.
