A shortage in volunteers has led the Cherry Creek Fire Department to start paying firefighters
Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lucas Banton says more and more volunteer departments are having to make the switch to paid on call.
Banton said they have made cuts within the department in order to implement the paid on call system without any effect on their existing budget.
The paid on call system starts July 1st, and will be capped.
He said the Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department usually responds to about 100 calls per year, and they’re always looking for new members to join.
