City Council will be asking the RCMP to restore a community policing office in the uptown area, as part of their strategic priorities for the next 4 years.
City officials recently travelled to Campbell River to study their public safety building that combines community policing with city bylaw services.
Mayor Sharie Minions believes that system would benefit Port Alberni’s battle against crime
“We all know that property crime, and crime in general is a concern for the people of Port Alberni,” she said. “We see this as a model that has worked elsewhere, that has buy-in from the Campbell River community, and something that is easily implementable here.”
Minions said council will be making public safety one of their top priorities once the timeline for their strategic plan is finalized.
