Cannabis will be one of the first major issues Port Alberni’s new City Council will face this month.
City CAO Tim Pley says there is already at least one referral from the Province seeking input from the City on a cannabis retail licence application.
After being sworn in at their first official council meeting this Monday, he said they’ll tackle the cannabis issue specifically at a committee of the whole meeting on November 19th.
In Nanaimo, the Provincial Government has submitted applications to open two BC Cannabis stores.
Currently, the only licenced cannabis store in the province is a government-operated location in Kamloops, and the first privately operated shop opens today in Kimberley.
The government says 173 applications for more stores are being considered.
