Yesterday’s 5-hectare fire in the Beauforts is still smoldering, after more than 24 hours of battling the blaze.
Cherry Creek Volunteer firefighters were called in to assist, with a firetruck and a water tender.
Cherry Creek Fire Chief Lucas Banton said getting through all the gates was a bit of an issue in getting to the fire.
They have these really good gates now, which makes things a bit more onerous,” said Banton. “Island Timberlands gave us permission to do whatever we had to do to get into a fire, so we had to cut one gate in half,” he said.
Island Timberlands announced yesterday that all access to their private lands is now closed because of the fire danger.
All three forest fires in the Valley this past week have been human caused.
