With only 2 weeks before World Oceans Day, Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns says the Government of Canada should be ashamed of their lack of action on marine pollution.
He said Tofino, Qualicum and the Regional District of Nanaimo are leading the Nation in regulating single use plastics from shopping bags to straws.
A recent report from the UVIC School of Environmental Law spelled out 7 recommendations to reduce marine plastics pollution that included ways to work with producers to redesign the plastics economy, and provide funding for marine clean-up initiatives.
