A 54-year old woman is in hospital after being struck by a car yesterday afternoon, and police are searching for driver who struck her.
The woman was walking across Argyle Street inside the crosswalk in front of city hall just before 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
Police say she had made it three quarters of the way across the four lane roadway when an eastbound vehicle failed to stop at the crosswalk and struck her.
The driver of the vehicle initially stopped and checked on the woman but after doing so, got back in his car and drove away.
Police are reviewing footage from a variety of security cameras in the area, and say they are searching for a grey or light green older model four door Chevrolet Cobalt, possibly with new front end damage.
The driver is described as an elderly Caucasian man, possibly in his 70’s with a slender build.
Anyone with information is asked to call Port Alberni RCMP.
