City Council voted themselves a raise last night.
While council members recognized it’s an awkward feeling to give yourself a raise, they believe it’s important to keep pace with other similar-sized communities so they can attract younger people to run for office.
Council members and city managers will receive a 2.1% raise this year, while unionized city staff get a 2.25% raise, and firefighter salaries go up 2.5%
Mayor Ruttan said the increases are tied to the cost of living and consumer price index, and are already covered in this year’s budget.
