The big Baldwin steam train is about to hit the tracks again after getting the all-clear from multiple engineering firms.
After months of work on the rails and trestles, the Number 7 Baldwin Steam Locomotive will restart operations in April, and McLean Mill executive director Deanna Beaudoin couldn’t be happier.
Concerns about safety kept the big Baldwin steam engine in the shed, while the lighter diesel engines pulled passenger cars
Beaudoin says final preparations and track work will be completed this month, and we should hear the steam train whistle the last week of April as they kick off the season with Beaufort Gang robberies and weekend runs to McLean Mill before the full 5-day a week service re-starts in June.
She says people who walk along tracks should be aware that final preparations and tie replacements will be happening this month and will cause an increase in rail traffic.
