People opposed to a proposed LNG terminal at Sarita Bay are organizing a protest for tomorrow.
The protest will coincide with representatives from Steelhead LNG and their partner Huu-ay-aht First Nations speaking at a Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Italian Hall.
One of the main organizers of the protest is Keith Wyton, the elected area director for Bamfield on the Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District board.
He recognizes he is a representative for Huu-ay-aht interests at the ACRD, but has told them he won’t back them on this issue.
Wyton said most people within the community of Bamfield do not support an LNG facility at nearby Sarita Bay, and no one has told him he shouldn’t be leading a charge against it.
He said LNG is a major contributor to climate change, and the slow-motion tsunami that is predicted to begin flooding waterfront communities like Port Alberni and Bamfield within this century.
The Chamber of Commerce meeting starts at 5:30 tomorrow at the Italian Hall.
