Some Sproat Lake homeowners are upset about properties being snapped up as short-term vacation rentals.
Terry Ketler and Deborah Phillip told regional district directors yesterday, that this summer was the worst they’d ever experienced after their neighbour’s property was bought by a Vancouver investor and turned into a party house.
They say the house is advertised on HomeAway.com for $2000 a week, and every week this summer was a new, boisterous group of people loudly partying into the night.
There are bylaws to prevent short-term vacation rentals at the lake, but there has been no enforcement. Staff has been asked to develop solutions for the board to debate next month.
