A couple escaped safely but lost their house to fire on Friday night.
Firefighters from Beaver Creek, Sproat Lake and Port Alberni converged on the Gordon Avenue home and kept the fire from spreading to other structures and surrounding brush.
A BC Forest Service helicopter with firefighting equipment flew over, but was not needed for fire support according to the Alberni Valley News.
Port Alberni Fire crews had been called out earlier to Roger Creek ravine at the end of 10th Avenue on Friday afternoon to extinguish a small brush fire that’s believed to have been started by a carelessly discarded cigarette.
