Hot dry summer winds have made Alberni forests tinder dry and has forced the Coastal Forest Center to post an extreme forest fire hazard rating for our area.
Yesterday, contractors extinguished a pair of abandoned campfires in the Roger Creek gulley
Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Chief Lucas Banton said he and Captain Jeff Findlay drove their water tanker up to Williams Lake yesterday, where they are now part of the firefighting force.
Banton said they will assist in the Interior for one or two weeks, and hope to share lessons learned from interface fires with other Alberni firefighters upon their return.
The Cherry Creek firefighters will join members of the Thunderbirds forest fire fighting crew who left the valley for the interior last week.
