With the fires burning in the Interior, Port Alberni City Council has asked for a wildfire protection plan be put together.
A small fire on the weekend near the Hole in the Wall was quickly extinguished, but raised the concern of council
Mayor Mike Ruttan says wildfires represent the greatest danger to city residents – more than an earthquake or tsunami.
Ruttan said their are grants available to remove debris in the interface zone, and Councillor Jack McLeman said his concern is the lack of an exit plan.
CAO Tim Pley, Fire Chief Kelly Gilday and the regional district’s emergency planning staff have been tasked with putting the wildfire protection plan together
