City Council received confirmation that other island agencies are telling homeless people to head to Port Alberni.
Terry Deakin from the Alberni Valley Community Stakeholders Initiative to End Homelessness said people are being urged to come here for low cost housing and the high number of social service agencies.
Port Alberni Mayor Mike Ruttan is not happy with the news, and said he would be speaking with other Mayors to send a message to their agencies to stop the practice.
Sources within provincial agencies have said other provinces send their hard-to-house people to BC, who then have to deal with the influx of people requiring special services, and move them around the province as a result.
