Real Estate sales last month continued to increase in Port Alberni.
49 properties sold last month, a 17% increase from May of last year, and 70% increase from the 29 homes sold in April.
Janice Stromar, Vancouver Island Real Estate Board president, says demand continues to outstrip supply, so most homes that enter the market are snapped up quickly.
As a result, benchmark prices also rose by 17% to $232,000 in Port Alberni, which is still the lowest of any other city on the island.
Nanaimo saw the largest jump last month where benchmark prices rose 21% to $473,000.
